"I saw 'Chess the musical', many, many years ago in London, with Marti Webb, and I didn't like the show, there was some nice songs, but I just didn't like it, and so, have not been to see 'Chess' since ... until last night when I saw, Auckland Music Theatre's production, of 'Chess' ….. it was incredible !! The cast was amazing, and brilliantly led by the beautiful Gabby Smith, as 'Florence', what a truly stunning, mature and moving performance, from this young woman, with a voice that rivals anything on the Broadway stages. The choreography by Teesh Szabo, was slick, tight, funny and exciting. The music was sung and played to perfection, with wonderful musical direction by Chris Moore. All up, I have to say I'm now a convert to the 'Chess' fan club, thanks to the amazing direction of Richard Neame, who managed to create this wonderful piece of theatre."
